Seaside Soul are a bunch of avid soul music devotees and record collectors based in Morecambe, Lancashire.  The group came together over a few pints at the Upstairs Downstairs Pub in June 2003 with the vision to create a new type of soul night for the North Lancs district to enjoy.

With all the diverse tastes in soul music covered within the group, June 2003 witnessed the first “Full Scope of Soul” Club night

These monthly soul nights at our home of Upstairs Downstairs continued to grow over the following years, with attendances peeking at 170 and gaining a regular 80/100 soul lovers a month.

With the establishment of our first website in December 2004, and the Clubs image branding confirmed, the visibility of the Club and its DJ's started to increase, and our reputation on the soul scene for playing quality soul music from all soul genre's was also becoming established. This was confirmed by the reactions of our first of many Club Promo CD's that were produced for the first 25 club night enteries.

Having had so much fun travelling to other soul clubs and weekenders, it was decided in 2006 that we should try our hand at hosting a festival? Well, we’re a coastal town, we have the hotels, the beach, and the fantastic Morecambe Bay view, not to mention a number of pubs all within short distance of each other. All in all, it’s not a bad place to take a break for a few days.

So carrying on the momentum we decided to give it a go.

Working to a £00.00 budget but working with all our soul DJ friends from right across the country we established the National Soul Collective, begging, borrowing and begging some more to get the inaugural North Lancs Soul Festival off the ground. In May 2007 we had a ball.

As far as we are aware the NLSF is the first entirely "free" weekend soul festival to be established on the scene, and this "coming together for the common goal" has certainly contributed to the open and friendly vibe created at the festival. It's been said "it's where ego's and arrogance are firmly left on the M6 to be collected by their owners on their return home". The 3-day festival continues to grow and develop and importantly still carries with it the inital ethos of those first festivals,  by continuing to be accessible for all.

Seaside Soul individuals continue to DJ, organise soul nights locally and attend festivals throughout the country,so it's most pleasing that for all the up's, down's, and the dummy's that have been spat out over the years, we are still lovin' what we do, and still working for the common goal of "Bringing You Sunshine", through the power of soul music.
