Seaside Soul Club Night Review

Saturday 21st May 2005

Last Saturday saw another successful night at the Seaside Soul club night held at the Upstairs Downstairs pub with over 120 souls enjoying music which spanned the decades. The dancefloor was busy with an appreciative crowd really switched on to the music. The crew span the tunes and we feature some of them here:

Warm up

Flora Wilson - Dancing on a Daydream
Miami - Party Freaks
Drifters - Pour your little heart out
World Premier - Share the night

Tony

Casualeers - Dance Dance Dance
Sam Dees - Fragile Handle with care
Mantronix - Got to have your love
Betty Swann - Kiss my love goodbye

Sean
Temptations - Cloud 9
Oscar Perry - I got what you need
Marvin Gaye - Lets Get it on remix
Philip Mitchell - I dont do this
Tavares - Judgment Day

Tim and Duffs

Webster Lewis - Let me be the one
Ike Strong - Your love keeps me dancing
Allnight Band - Lovely Ladies
Chubby Checker - At the discotheque

Dave and Larry

Lou Rawls - See you when i get there
Jackie Moore - This time Baby
E Smoove - Deja Vue

Of course a host of northern tunes were played as you would expect but the club prides itself on a good cross section.

25 free cds were given away to the first 25 people who came through the doors and this is something we intend to repeat each month with as all the djs giving their input into what should be collectors CD's to chase.

So get there early for the connesseurs session between 8.00pm and 9.00pm a mixture of tent music, modern crossover and northern soul before the dancers arrive!!!
From 9.00pm the tempo increases but the quality of soul remains and look out for the Dr's cheesy caister imitation mind you Chris Hill shouldn't be worried just yet!!

The camera was also out this month so expect some pictures of the night for your browsing pleasure to be posted in the Gallery section very soon.

Here's a few comments about the night from those who attended featured on the club's message board….

"Yep i agree with all the positive reports, since i arrived back on the scene 12 months ago uppy has been one of my favourite venues and i try very hard not to miss...although an old casino boy at heart i really enjoyed the mecca too, to a lesser extent, but i like ALL soul music and the mix here is great.
Ireceived a warm welcome last May from everyone my sis introduced me to and have always felt at home at U/D, made great new friends and had several good nites...
my own vinyls include oldies,modern-northern,crossover,jazz-funk and y2k modern, and its all in one room...on the same nite!!...ace!!"

"Just to say how much us Fylde Coast Soulies enjoyed last night. Musically it was truly across the board - from Chubby Checker to E- Smoove & everything else in between - 60s to Y2K at its best. Really friendly crowd - will definitely be back - Good on ya guys."
