A Taste
of Soul with Eddy
Edmondson
After
eighteen months of successfully running soul nights at Upstairs Downstairs
the Seaside Soul Club finally made it onto a national stage with an
invitation from Soul
in the Sun's Eddy Edmondson to guest on a two hour special from
Kendal in the Lakes on Lakeland Radio's A Taste Of Soul.
This seemed
highly appropriate as were sharing a setting with Strawberry Bank Liquers
and Plumgarth Foods no less, why Eddie Even offered to thrown in The
Gateway Inn for good measure to keep a steady stream of drinks flowing.
Sadly
the boys were well behaved and whilst their nerves were on show for
the journey up to Kendal despite Rod Davies's best efforts to tank the
lads up on Robbie Vincent tapes and Carlsberg Lager, once the opening
bars of Harrison Crump's "Ride" kicked in they were
thoroughly relaxed.
Jason
introduced Eddy to the Club members and we each took in tunes to play
and to describe why we had made these choices.
Tim and
Duffs talked about a recent gig at the Platform to see Charles Walker
and "Snake Juice" got an airing also played was a cracking
Johnnie Johnson track to boot thanks to Tim. Tim along with Duffs also
went on to explain some of the gigs and records played at venues in
Morecambe over the years particularly Morecambe Pier back in the 80ss.
Dave and Sean T played some across the board from Eric Benet,
Johnny Bristol, Gwen Mcrae, Eloise Laws and some
NUSoul and gave their thoughts on the club and why it had been so popular
and the broad music policy on offer.
Sean O'Connor
gave Eddy one or two surprises to listen to in TLC, Black
Satin, The Four Tops, Philip Mitchell and The Drifters
"Pour Your Little Heart Out" which got Eddy very interested
and making written notes for reference. Pete Warner, The Originals'
"Don't Stop Now" and Lou Rawls "See You When I
Get There" finished the night off and a great time was had by all.
Charlie
couldn't make it this time around but I'm sure it wont be too long before
the Seaside Soul Club hits the airwaves again.

show here.
