Geno Washington
and the Ram Jam Band play the Platform, Morecambe on Sunday 12th March
One
of the most popular Soul bands in the UK in the 60`s, Geno Washington
& the Ram Jam Band, will be performing at the Platform in Morecambe,
on Sunday 12th March.
Geno Washington
had two of the biggest selling UK albums of the 1960s. The first `Hand
Clappin`, Foot Stompin`, Funky Butt Live` was in the charts for 48 out
of 52 weeks in 1966. Incredibly, only `The Sound of Music` and `Bridge
Over Troubled Water` sold more in the UK that year.
Geno came
over to the UK with the US Airforce and stayed. He subsequently became
the UK Soul man. His level of touring and the high energy of his gigs
was, and still is the stuff of legends and was immortalised by the 80`s
hit `Geno!` by Dexy`s Midnight Runners. Geno`s sets were relentless,
with almost every song segueing into the next. Hit followed Hit, the
beat was continuous and the punters couldn`t get enough of it.
2005 was
Geno`s 40th year as a Soul rocker in the UK and he is still very much
in demand as he masterfully blends Soul, Rhythm and Blues and Rock &
Roll to drive audiences to near exhaustion on the dance floor.
The band
is on tour to promote their new album `Pimp My Rhythm` which is due
to be released later this year. The album contains 10 new tracks, 9
of them written by Geno.
The show
will start at 7.30pm and tickets cost £11 adults, £9 concessions.
They are available from the Box Office on 01524 582803.
