Well we
had another great night at Upstairs Downstairs on Saturday with another
great crowd in to appreciate some splendid soulful music.
This capped
a terrific year at the club with sounds spanning from the 60ss right
through to the latest soulful dance tunes.
All 25
free club CDs were snapped up and the club have started taking names
for a special trip to the Orwell in Wigan on 27th January and at £10
is great value for what promises to be a great night out in the new
year.
Before
then the next Seaside Soul Club event will take place on 14th January.
This has been brought forward owing to Simon (yes he of the sideburns
and braces and excellent sales box!!) and Vicky's ska and northern event
at the Kings Arms Hotel in Morecambe the following Saturday 21st January.
Many of the club will be at this event and it makes total sense not
to clash with our friends.
Well what
a night we had with five hours of excellent music which seemed to fly
by. Tim started things off and obviously his trip to Records and Relics
paid off with a really good mix of modern/northern classics with Johnny
Johnson's "I don't know why" on EMI and Fred Hughes
timeless Mecca classic "Baby Boy" on a super Brunswick album.
Talking
of the Mecca we had our friends from the Fylde with us too in the shape
of the Family Tree Crew namely Pete Haigh and Andy Lett
along
with the delightful Julia, Carmel and Coral who thoroughly enjoyed the
music, the dancing and the chat. Tim kept the Northern sounds going
and set a high standard to follow which was kept up all night by the
DJ's.
Following
Tim I opened up with The Dells "Don't trick me treat me"
and played a broad mix of Northern, Modern and Crossover. Of course
the oldies flowed as did the beer but it was the more recent sounds
of Sonja Grier "Right here right now" and Vince
Montana's "That's what love does" that got the biggest
dance floor reaction before the more familiar sounds kicked in.
Pete
Haigh had to leave us at around 11.00pm to get to his gig at The Mint
in Kendal. Talking of Kendal a big shout to Rod and the crew from the
Lakes who have supported us so well over the last twelve months and
thanks for the Robbie Vincent CDs Rod cant wait to listen to them.!!!
Charlie
and Sean Tracey then funked up the night with some class dancfloor groovers
from War & DJ Genesis and of course classic northern
from The Casualeers to name but a few. By this time the dancefloor
was rocking and the beer flowing. Coral won the £20 football card
prize which she duly shared with Carmel and so well worth the journey
despite the detour round Preston Docks owing to the M55 being closed
.
Duffs
closed the night with all the classic northern tracks we've begun accustomed
to him playing and the big modern sounds of Skip Mahoney and
Phyllis Hyman getting big dance floor reactions and then closing
on Cory Glover "Little Girl". Duffs will be djing next
at the do at Smokies on New Years Eve with tickets at £10 and
include a live band performance too so if you love your Northern Soul
then that is one not to be missed. More details on this gig in our Events
section soon
Our next
Seaside Soul Club gig is Saturday 14th January 2006 and we hope
to feature more excellent soulful sounds from across the soul spectrum
making it one of the best one roomed events in the North West.
